What is the difference between a heterozygous and a homozygous genotype?

heterozygous genotype is a genotype that has two different alleles for a gene, while a homozygous genotype is a genotype that has two identical alleles for a gene. For example, if an individual has one allele for brown eyes and one allele for blue eyes, they would have a heterozygous genotype for eye color. If an individual has two alleles for brown eyes, they would have a homozygous genotype for eye color.
